What is dental bonding?
Dental bonding is one of our simplest cosmetic treatments and is ideal for making small changes or minor repairs. In fact, when you visit our dental office for dental bonding, we can often help you walk out with a new smile that very same day. Dental bonding is the process by which we bond a restorative material directly to the surface of your tooth in order to make improvements. Dr. Derek Lowe may suggest dental bonding in Fairbanks, Alaska, to repair broken or chipped teeth, close gaps between teeth, or improve the shape, size, or color of an unsightly tooth.
How is dental bonding done?
When you come to our dentist for dental bonding, we will first clean and prepare the tooth. This generally involves lightly buffing your tooth enamel to facilitate a stronger bond with the material used. Our material of choice at Alaska Dental Arts is composite resin, a long-lasting mixture of plastics. We are able to match composite resin to your natural tooth color or pick a shade that is lighter if we are improving discoloration. When ready, the composite resin is applied directly to the tooth and sculpted until it fits perfectly with the natural curves of the tooth. The final bond is hardened with a special light and then polished to a beautiful shine.
