What is tooth extraction?
When a tooth is too severely damaged to be successfully restored, our knowledgeable dentist may recommend tooth extraction. Tooth extraction, or tooth removal, will only be recommended if it is truly the best available treatment option for restoring your smile to good health and function. Both before and after your tooth extraction in Fairbanks, Alaska, Dr. Derek Lowe and our team will be glad to discuss tooth replacement options with you to restore your smile to optimal function, health, and beauty.
Why do I need tooth extraction?
A tooth extraction may be beneficial if a tooth is too seriously decayed or injured to be effectively repaired with a filling, crown, or other type of restoration. If a tooth is severely infected and cannot be restored through root canal treatment, we may also suggest tooth extraction to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas of your smile.
What are wisdom teeth?
Your wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last permanent teeth to erupt in your smile. They usually come in during the late teens or early 20s. We must often remove the wisdom teeth because there is not enough room for them to come in properly, causing damage and pain.
